Ask A Ninja Fans

end of story people.
that not what real ninjas were like and thats a totally whacked up depiction.
so come off the high horse that says that ninjas can do anything in the world and kill everything and anything in a fraction of a second. yes ninja kicked ass and still do but be sensible about it and you'll be granted more weight to your claims of amazingness.

here's a list of who in naruto can truly be considered a ninja based off of tactics and style
Kakashi, he really is a lot like a ninja
Sasuke - he's alot like kakashi
Zabuza - again more ninja esque style of fighting and ninja like tactics (strike without being seen)

Now who isn't a ninja in naruto and what they are more like
Third hokage - sorcerer
rock lee - bruce lee
Gai - rock lee - bruce lee
orochimaru - snake sorcer
Haku - water elemental user
Garra - sand over lord
tenten - assasin, sniper style
Neji - martial artist
Naruto - total failure at life

I do like naruto, but face it these guys are not ninja save for a few

The only thing that Naruto has to do with Ninjas is that they take a few vocab and pretty much misuses it completely or very vaguely, and uses some equipment that Ninjas used. Other then that, it really has nothing to do with Ninjas what so ever.

Well, technically many of the magical powers shown in Naruto are based of real life ninja lore, though the real ninjas didn't use any magic, just skill and technology.

You know that firebreathing thing Sasuke and Itachi can do? The real ninjas just drank a lot of sake and spit out with a torch in front of their mouthes. That's called improvising, folks.

Also that thing with the shadow clones. The real ninjas carried pop-up-cardboard ninjas with them around. When it's dark, its easy to place them as a distrcation while you're on the run, or fooling the enemy by making him believe he's already surrounded.

I think that the shadow clone idea comes from when a ninja attacks in the night, it starts as one ninja drawing the enemies out and then suddenly three more jump out to help. and since they all look the same in that black uniform...
you get the point

Naruto is as fake as 99% of the people on here...I'll give a 1% chance there is actually someone on here who embodies everything that everyone is claiming a ninja has, but that might be a longshot still.

...My point though is who cares about the historical accuracy of anything...it's called TV. Then of course there is the question of the legitimacy of this social network in the first place and those that join. Honestly, who cares!?!?!

True that, this is a website for people who like Ninjas, wither or not they are one, b/c the question of what makes one a ninja is not really well defined.

good call, someone should make a forum discussing what makes someone a ninja.

It's already been done, and the answer wasn't very clear, as the requirements are not concrete as we like them to be. But just looking at the word is a good place to start, "The Art of Stealth".

Uh huh . . . Why the drama?

Anyone with half a brain should be able to discern that this is an ANIMATED fictional show. I'd bet most of the arguements about what a ninja can or can't do aren't really debating a historical ninja.

Methinks this is taking the ninja thing a bit too seriously. Half the fun of ninjas are the romanticism around them.

And as for the Naruto = Kids argument, you're probably watching a dumbed down US edited version with an undeniable bias toward animation as "kiddy stuff" unless it's something to the realm of excessively violent or using strong, often blunt language. Those elements can be used in a well structured and deep show, but often they're the selling points to many audiences. Sorta' like movies that sell because of special effects. *eyes transformers* Not saying everyone, but I watch Naruto, and while some aspects are iffy, the show isn't half bad.

Does it depict the historical ninja accurately? Of course not. I can't believe one can be a part of this community and want "accuracy" with ninjas. :P

Yeah really there are three types of Ninjas

1.) Historical Ninjas- The real Ninjas of Japan which originated from the Shinobi. People today who study Ninjutsu/ninpō would fall into this type by some means.

2.) Modern Day Ninjas- Special Forces like the Navy Seal and Green Beret that use stealth, and basically are the modern day equivalent.

3.) Pop-culture/Supernatural Ninja- Fictional Ninja that usually has superpowers, blah, blah. The one potrayed in most media, inlcuding Ask a Ninja, Naruto. Usually a common theme found in internet culture.

I always thought that ninjas and shinobi were the same thing.
