I'm usually a laid back, easy going person, but there is something that has always annoyed me since I was a child. That darn question on job applications about race. I come from a family with mixed heritage so I always put 'other.' Yet when I went to get my state ID the ignorant clerk automatically put African American. That pissed me off. That's totally disregarding the rest of my family. They do my fiance the same way. He's part Cuban, Trinidadian, and Japanese. But people take one look at him and assume off the bat...African American. I think you should be allowed to decide how you want you to be identified. It's annoying that people assume certain things just because of how I look. And it's always hilarious to see people's reactions when they ask me where I'm from and I say Okinawa. People forget wherever Mama-san is at the time that's where the baby will be born. She happened to be living in Okinawa to give birth to me and then my baby brother 2 years later. What's so hard to comprehend about that? Anyway, that's just my rare rant for the day. Very few things get me worked up but this is just one of those few things.
