Ask A Ninja Fans

I'm usually a laid back, easy going person, but there is something that has always annoyed me since I was a child. That darn question on job applications about race. I come from a family with mixed heritage so I always put 'other.' Yet when I went to get my state ID the ignorant clerk automatically put African American. That pissed me off. That's totally disregarding the rest of my family. They do my fiance the same way. He's part Cuban, Trinidadian, and Japanese. But people take one look at him and assume off the bat...African American. I think you should be allowed to decide how you want you to be identified. It's annoying that people assume certain things just because of how I look. And it's always hilarious to see people's reactions when they ask me where I'm from and I say Okinawa. People forget wherever Mama-san is at the time that's where the baby will be born. She happened to be living in Okinawa to give birth to me and then my baby brother 2 years later. What's so hard to comprehend about that? Anyway, that's just my rare rant for the day. Very few things get me worked up but this is just one of those few things.

I understand completely, but i also understand nothing.
Sorry had to be said ^^;

I understand in the sense i know what people go through, because after all, what you see usually isnt what you get. I know this would probably sound wrong of me, but i once met a black scottsman, and was so surprised to know he was scottish and not african. But because of that, i guess i understand where people come from and everything.

I dont understand it through having the same thing happen to me though.

That is all.

You see what your doing there is defining yourself by how you look, your angry that other people do it and get it wrong, fair enough, but you also define yourself by your looks, history, culture.

It is a well known human trait that we create divisions based on; anything.
You should not be concerned about how different you are and how others should respect that, but by how similar you are, how similar we all are...

Wait... if i put a Cuban, Trinidadian, and Japanese in a blender id get an African?

Dude.. with all those different genes your likely to have some medical issues. Sorry, they don't all just blend.

Hehe, that was funny. But yeah, he turned out looking quite hot! So the mix is definitely a good one. But my problem is I just feel like my other ancestors are being forgotten when people look at me and assume all of them were African, when they were not. If they came to one of my family reunions they would think they were at the UN or something. I have people from all over the world in just about every shade of brown, eye color, hair texures, eyes shapes, and all kinds of cultures in my family. I think it's insulting to the rest ofmy family if I'm so narrowly defined.

If you mean Germans, I'm not sure. Every time I check my family tree I get a surprise. We do have Irish, French, Cherokee, Kenyan, Okinawan, and English in our family. Of course there are the West African slaves on both sides, but from the looks of things there was a lot of 'sneaking into the camp' if you will going on on my mother and my father's side of the family.

Now my younger brother's wife is part Korean, German, and Nigerian. Yeah, What a mix, huh?
(For a long time I had a cursh on her cousin, Chanju, and I had no idea she was related to him until after she married my bro and I went to a family cook out at their house. *blush*)

The only thing i can derive about your genetics from that your family is horny for... foreign looking people... lol

LOL, those were my thoughts exactly. Especially the men. Seems all they care about is if she's a woman and if they can catch her. So far the weddings I have been to have been Christian or, heh, civil as in at the court house. As for those other cultures, like I said I get a surprise every time I research my family tree so there may be Inuit, Indian, etc. in there too.

I get what your saying, but I doubt that they meant it to be offensive to you. They have to do the same thing to MANY people every day, they probbaly just didn't think it all the way throught. Some might just be sterotypical haha. Whether or not you take it as racism, neglection, or whatever >.> I think you're thinking to hard. =3 But thats good because I really like replying to these things xD~
