It depends on a lot of things. The enviornment in which they fight and the skill of both warriors. A skilled Samurai who is aware of his surroundings would be aware of a Ninja's presence before the Ninja could stab him in the back.

ok, situation one on one battle?
How about this: Depending on the skill af the fighters. Its the HUman that makes the fighter, no? ;) And of corse on the rules of chaos. Even if a guy is way better than a other one. In an battle with lethal weapons this only makes a Chance.
here is an i think .... japanese saying (? dunno)
The greatest swordman of all times was defeated by a farmer, with a stick
I think it depends on what they are fighting for. Ninja are about getting the job done, and going on to the next thing. They like to keep moving. Samurai are all about honor. I can honestly see a Ninja forcing a Samurai into ritual suicide.
I also think Ping needs to brush up on his Japanese/ Asian culture seeing as how he spelled Sensei wrong.
Last night i was watching a documental about ninjas in the discovery channel, and it seems that ninjas can actually take 2 samurais at the same time without much of an effort...
